SARK's E Letter (e stands for energy)
Juiciest July 2002
=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=
"LIFE IS CONSTANTLY PROVIDING US WITH NEW
FUNDS, NEW RESOURCES, EVEN WHEN WE ARE
REDUCED TO IMMOBILITY. IN LIFE'S LEDGER,
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FROZEN ASSETS."
HENRY MILLER
Welcome to my monthly e letter! The "e" stands for
energy. My intention is to infuse you with new energy,
and nourish you with quotes, book recommendations,
fresh insights, and places I am floundering. I wanted to
connect more often than once a year when I write a new
book, or briefly in person on a book tour. My vision is to
have this turn into a forum, a place to converse, a salon
where we can EXTRAVAGANTLY LOUNGE together.
I have been so inspired by your responses that we have
started a guest book where can leave your writings for
me, and others to read at SARK's Glorious Guestbook
(www.campsark.com/vmt/guestbook/guestbook.php)
(Please note: if you wish to receive responses from other
SARK readers, please post on the Marvelous Message
Board at Lounge and Chat
(www.campsark.com/pages/lounge.php). I love having
this dialogue with you! I receive so many scrumptious,
thought-full responses to my e letters. Thank you. Back
issues of all the e letters are happily archived at Catch Up
With SARK, (www.campsark.com/pages/catchup.php).
Come and Play with me at a SARK event:
September 15: Chabot College, Hayward, California:
"Cancer as a Turning Point, From Surviving to Thriving."
SARK will speak about Succulent Healing.
October 1, 3, 5: SARK events in Canada! Sponsored by
the Learning Annex in Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto.
See below for details!

Tender Travels
=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=
I arrived in New York City at 10 p.m., where the
temperature was 86 degrees, and the humidity was
10,000%. The driver of the car started shouting at me,
and I saw a snarling dog by the side of the road. My
favorite jeans had become uncomfortably snug, and I felt
exhausted, overwhelmed and "too vulnerable" for this trip.
I've been studying my vulnerability for a while now, and
notice that my typical response to feeling vulnerable has
been to: tighten up, wear a better mask, "get it together"
and mostly, repair or replace feelings of vulnerability.
On this trip, I decided to experiment with what I'm calling
"awakened vulnerability" and just allow and notice when
I'm feeling vulnerable. Some of my new responses have
been: softening my approach, reaching out to others in
new ways, endearing surrender, and trusting that a shift
will occur.
The 2 SARK events, Learning Annex in New York City
and the Free Library/Open Book in The Hamptons, were
nourishing, fabulous, and filled with really fine human
beans. For a first-hand account of the Learning Annex
event, go to www.campsark.com/pages/lounge.php to
Search. Type in "SARK in NYC" and "About Last Night"
(remember to use "exact phrase"). Thank you to "French
Toast Girl" and "Indigomoonchild."
After the event, my agents took me out to dinner in SoHo,
at a cool spot that reminded me of Paris in the 1920's. I
went down the narrow wooden stairs to the bathroom,
and found a bathroom attendant who I became friendly
with. On the way up, I noticed an elegantly dressed man
in a tuxedo coming down. Since the stairs were too
narrow for both of us, I waited at the bottom. Suddenly, I
was showered and wet! I shouted, "Hey!" The man in the
tuxedo was covering his mouth and rushing past.
Yes. He had vomited on me. My eyes, hair and clothing
were dripping. I ran into the ladies room where the
bathroom attendant graciously helped me. The
restaurant offered to pay my dry cleaning; my agents
called a cab for me and offered copious sympathy. The
elegantly dressed man ran off into the night.
My assistant, Anne Ferguson, wisely observed, "From the
glory to the vomit."
Leslie, the lovely librarian and Terry the terrific book
beauty threw a salubrious and most succulent soirée in
The Hamptons at the Free Library and the Open Book
Bookshop. Leslie and the sublime Sabrina Ward
Harrison introduced me, and we all talked together about
things that count. Then we all mingled and laughed at the
bookstore.
Afterwards, Leslie and her husband, Mike, and niece
Miranda catered a fantasy dinner at the library. There
were candles, Italian music and a gorgeous table all set
up in the library! This was a total fantasy for me: to eat
scrumptious food in the company of good people and
good books. A sheer and uncommon delight!
My travels were tender, heat-soaked, awkward and
enlivening. I pray for continued tender travels! My
gratitude to "Sparrow" on the Marvelous Message Board
who complimented me highly by saying, "I think she is a
good little vessel for God."
I think that living in awakened vulnerability means that we
can contain it all … after all the dictionary defines
vulnerable as "capable of being hurt." I propose an
expanded definition to include "being hurt means being
capable," or "having become transparent to being hurt."
THINGS TO TRY FOR LIVING IN AWAKENED
VULNERABILITY
---> Become aware of your vulnerability, or increase your
awareness
What is your definition?
---> Respond to "bad things" and "good things" in new
ways
How might vulnerability assist you?
---> Experiment with your capacity for living in awakened
vulnerability.
Where in your life are you most guarded or self-
protected? What kinds of shifts might occur if you held
your experiences up to a different light?
MAY WE ALL
~~~ Soften our approach
~~~ Receive experiences through new filters
~~~ Practice endearing surrender
I SEND TO YOU
A sweet nap at the bottom of a sun-warmed canoe.
Someone else is paddling, and there is a soft thunk as
the paddle touches the side of the canoe. You are
smiling slightly and admiring the sky. Water splashes up
periodically, and you lie in a state of timeless wonder.
You are going somewhere, but it doesn't matter when you
get there. Your body feels light and strong and flexible.
Take a deep breath…and another. You are in a state of
awakened vulnerability. All is well.
Lusciously, SARK
MARVELOUS MARJORIE (My Mom)
More challenges and miracles: Last month, Medicare
declared that she wasn't making progress. (There is just
one measurement for "progress," regardless of what has
happened to you) and discharged her from physical
therapy. I was told that she would never walk again.
Through a series of serendipitous miracles, and via an
angel named Kathy Green, we located a company called
Senior Abilities Unlimited.
They formed their company in direct response to the gap
in Medicare policy on the subject of progress.
After 2 months of intensive physical therapy and energy
medicine by Linda LeClaire, and a remote healing by Dr.
Sha (power healing), my Mom is preparing to take her
first step. If you'd like to send a quick note of
encouragement…
