Alive in April 2004 : You Adorable Flower

Dear Ones, I welcome you to the Premiere Issue of my new color-full eLetter. I love that I finally have the opportunity to write to you in color with art! Very special thanks to Jillian and Patrick for creatively designing it!

On April 19, I turn 50! My friends (especially thanks to Larry) are Giving me a little "art festival" and dinner. I'm practicing receiving their generous gifts. (Okay, I'll admit that it's difficult not to be planning Or controlling my birthday, and I also love that I'm not). It's the first birthday since my Mom died, and I'll really miss hearing her confidently sing Happy Birthday to me.

I'm celebrating this particular birthday all year long, so if you feel like sending any wishes my way, you have plenty of time!

Here's where you can leave me a message I'm grateful and excited to be a half-century old.

My younger brother Andrew is embarking on his solo hike of the Pacific Crest Trail, 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada. We're driving down to the Mexican border next week, and I'm hiking the first 3 miles of the trail with him. He doesn't know it, but I'm going to hide little notes of encouragement in his backpack, and draw a secret note on his shoe.

Last week, while lifting weights at the gym, I pulled muscles in my shoulder and back, and woke up in terrible pain. As I crawled to get a glass of water, I was sharply reminded of physical fragility, humility, and what it is to live in a human body - we are not machines. I forget this. I assign my body these tasks and get angry if it "malfunctions." More and more, I am recognizing the partnership I have with my body, and that we are a team.

For many years, I often overpowered my body with my will. As I enter my 50th year, I have a more benevolent view and a deeper respect for my dear, beautiful body. It makes me think about gratitude.

I am gratefull for my chiropractor, Dr. Kristine Hicks.

I am gratefull to be alive in April, 2004.

I am gratefull to my ability to feel deeply - even though I don't always like it.

I am gratefull to be growing, even though I'm often stuck.

I am gratefull for pain, even when I can hardly wait to get away from it.

I am gratefull to my Mom for dying, because it has reinforced my joy in living.

I am gratefull for my indelible connection to spirit.

I am gratefull to you for reading these words, you adorable flower.

I send you.

The fog racing by the moon from my window.

The twinkling lights through the leaves in my garden.

The ocean at twilight, and the soft, snuffly sound of a sea lion breathing, sweet shelter in a friend's embrace, a distinct memory of something endearing from long ago, and a triple raspberry popsicle.

There is an exquisite place in San Francisco called Café Gratitude which has delicious live, organic food, affirmations on the walls and menu, and a remarkable board game called The Abounding River which is all about abundance. My friend, Andrea, www.superherodesigns.com, told me about this bountifull spot.

We're going to have a little book party and succulent supper there in early June. I'll tell you more about it in the May eletter, and you are most succulently invited! Come and play in San Francisco!

I am thrilled to tell you about my new sound equipment. My lead technical guy, Nate Stone, (doesn't he sound like a super hero?), set it all up in my house. Now I can make state-of-the-art recordings from my home and computer! I am wild to record. You'll be hearing things soon.

As I write this, my new website, www.planetsark.com is about to start beta testing (I don't really know exactly what this means, but don't tell this to Tammi, my project manager/developer), leading up to going live on Monday, May 10. I know you're going to love it. It's our creative community built from the heart.

My newest book Make Your Creative Dreams REAL A Plan For Procrastinators, Perfectionists, Busy People, Avoiders, and People Who Would Really Rather Sleep All Day has just popped out of the printer oven, and it's a big tasty morsel. It will be available very soon and you can pre-order it now.

SARK's Juicy Living Cards

SARK partnered with Hay House (Louise Hay's company) to create her Juicy Living cards. There at 50 thick, luminous, color-soaked cards, which have inspiring art and encouraging words on both sides. Their purpose is to remind you that you are JUICY, no matter how opposite of that you might be feeling. You can pick one for the day, or week, or just randomly.
