FEATURED IN THIS ISSUE:

Dear Beans,

I am just returning from an at-home writing retreat. Mostly, this consists of "breathing and waiting" (as my mentor Miriam used to say). During this time, I faced squads of "inside critics" and always, my failed perfectionist. In between these states, I snuck into the spaces of silence and quickly scribbled, painted, or drew what was in my soul. This new writing and art drew me deeper into not-knowing than I've ever been. This is good.

My cat Jupiter's recent health conditions have moved me from the one-who-knows to not-knowing. This not-knowing place feels wide and expansive. I hide in the one-who-knows identity sometimes. I know that my deepest contact with the divine spirit lies in my not-knowing. Oh, but I scramble to know! The ego loves to figure it all out, have a plan, find the answer, and just be "in the know." At the moment, Jupiter is better, and I don't "know" more than that!)

Quote July

I am confident that we must flail and stumble as often as we are called to. I propose that we surrender any big, proud ideas and inch along whenever inching is called for. Surrendering also involves accepting the gloriousness of ourselves and living in that glorious light.

Out of the ground of not-knowing will come new growth. Brave little green shoots might tenderly peer out past the bigger, more well-known plants. A leaping bean may take root!

Can we allow unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or unusual growth?

Can we hold ourselves as tenderly as tiny baby angels in the midst of not-knowing times?

I don’t know.

It feels liberating to not know! I will frolic in these expanded spaces and allows as much not knowing as I am able. Meet me there, and we’ll flounder along together, shaking our heads, and saying sweetly, “I just don’t know …”

Sending you love,

Susan (a.k.a. SARK)

“The Craggy Hole in My Heart and the Cat Who Fixed It: Over
the Edge With My Dad, My Cat, and Me”

By Geneen Roth
Thanks to Joe who sent me this book and to the Dish, from
the Marvelous Message Board, and others for the
recommendation. It’s a truly remarkable book about how we
feel so much love for the people and animals in our lives
and that that love is inside of us already – the people and
animals awaken us to it. Even if and when, people and
animals change physical form, we never lose that love.

Take a look inside this book..

“Gift of the Red Bird”
By Paula D’Arcy
Paula’s family was killed in a drunk-driving accident in
1975. She writes and speaks beautifully and heartfully about
the powerful transformative effect this has had upon her
life. This book describes her journey into the wilderness
and what she finds there.

Take a look inside this book.

A WEBSPINNER’S TOUR OF PLANETSARK.COM

By Tammi Riedl

Many of you have told us that there is too much to explore and discover on PlanetSARK.com. So, for the next few months we will introduce you to each of the website's features through a guided tour.

This month we are visiting SARK’s Studio. Please take off your shoes, grab a cup of your favorite tea, and join us as we wander through the Magic Cottage. We really recommend that you go to PlanetSARK.com to explore with us.

Starting at PlanetSARK.com's home page, click on SARK’s Studio. You are greeted by SARK lying on her purple chaise lounge with her “fur husband” cat Jupiter flicking his tail by her side. The Magic Cottage has fun things inside, so move your mouse slowly around the screen to reveal the wonders just waiting to be explored.

In “Meet SARK,” watch SARK's movie and hear her talk about her life, her journey as an author/artist, her books, her products, her company, and how she has recently realized one of her biggest creative dreams. Don’t forget to turn on your speakers to hear the giggles; if you don’t have speakers, that’s okay because you can read along with the text captions.

In “Innerviews,” read SARK’s answers to questions from some of our community members. You will also find links to news and articles featuring SARK.

We have included books, music, and websites recommended by SARK in the section called "Discoveries." SARK has more of her discoveries to share with you, please check back often.

Jupiter wanted to act as a magic 8 ball oracle for Planet SARK, so in “Ask Jupiter,” ask him about anything that comes to mind. He may tell you that it’s time to allow your longings, to practice receiving, or to buy cat food even if you don’t have a cat. It’s a lot of fun, and he has become a popular contributing member of our community. Simply think of a question, and then click on him to receive your answer.

SARK’s mom died on October 8th last year, and her inheritance was used to fund the development of PlanetSARK.com. In “Marvelous Marjorie” we created a special place in her honor where you can read a letter SARK wrote to her mom on Mother’s Day and see some of her favorite pics of the infamous Marjorie Elaine Anderson Kennedy.

Come by anytime to explore SARK’s Studio

And, please remember to leave your shoes outside the door!

WHAT’S NEW ON PLANETSARK.COM -- ADVENTURES IN WEB DEVELOPMENT

We have added two new features to the community on PlanetSARK.com.

DreamcatcherThe first is our Community Dreamcatcher.

As SARK tells us in her new book, finding and naming your creative dreams is the first step toward making them real. In the Community Dreamcatcher we created a collective display of some of our members' creative dreams. These dreams are randomly selected each day from the their personal Dreamcatchers inside their Web Space. The collective energy of all of the creative dreamers selected and our supportive community on PlanetSARK.com adds more power to living your creative dreams. If your dream is selected, you will receive an email to let you know so that you can invite your friends and family to join you in your creative dream living adventure.

Click here to view our Community Dreamcatcher

The Community Dreamcatcher changes daily, so come back to see who’s in the dream collective!

The other new feature created for our PlanetSARK.com members is the online Journals or web logs (a.k.a. blogs).

SARK says: “When we journal, we create new pathways in our creative brains. I’ve been too shy to write in my journal (I don’t like the word blog), but I am starting to get excited about the online journal concept."

Here is a selection of members' journals to show you:

“A Creative Companion”

A Creative CompanionThis month I am featuring my first book, “A Creative Companion: How to Free Your Creative Spirit.” I wrote it in 1990, and it’s in its 16th printing. Here is an excerpt: “Remember the sandbox? All you needed was bare toes in warm sand and maybe a good bucket. Then you could build your own world.” We are all building our creative dream worlds, and this book is written and painted from my soul to yours. Later this month, I will “look inside” the book, and it will be the monthly book feature on our website.

I’ve loved Jen’s Journal and photographs for a long time and got the chance to meet her at my 50th birthday “art festival” party. She is an illuminated soul with the kindest eyes and most gentle spirit. She will also be assisting me at the workshop in Chicago on July 28. Thank you, Jen!

SARK: What are your creative dreams, and which one(s) are you focused on now?

PortraitJEN: Gosh, I have so many ... I dream about creating a program which raises earth awareness and sensitivity for children in outdoor classrooms. I dream about collecting the extraordinary stories from the seemingly ordinary, through travel, music, photography, and interviewing. I dream about working on an organic farm bringing food to hungry bellies... mostly, I dream of living a kind and beautiful life. This past year I quit my job of 13 years and dared to try something I always wanted to do. I am now working as a freelance photographer, a major dream of mine. I still can't believe I am getting paid for doing something that I love.

SARK: In general, how have SARK books helped you, and specifically how has “Make Your Creative Dreams REAL” helped you?

JEN: SARK's books have been a major resource for me along my creative journey. Her honesty comforts me, her ideas inspire me, her juiciness reminds me of magical living... Specifically, chapter 7, in "Make Your Creative Dreams REAL," made an impact on me. As I read SARK's list of the dreams she has already made real, as well as her active and inactive dreams, it occurred to me that I have never done this. As I began to write a list of my own, I was amazed at how many wishes of mine had already unfolded. As simple as this may sound, this gave me so much hope and inspiration that I really do have the ability to develop a life that I love. The Creative Dream Questions on page 163 have assisted me in defining and discovering the dreams still swirling around inside of me. (Thank you so much SARK.)

SARK: Are there places you get stuck with your dreams? Please describe.

JEN: I get stuck when I listen to the critical voice inside which reminds me that I have had no training, experience, or education in photography. I get stuck when I become obsessed with perfection. I get stuck when I take on too many jobs at one time, out of fear I am missing an opportunity, or because I find it difficult to say no. I get stuck when I focus on the criticisms more than the positive feedback.

SARK: Do you have any question(s) for me about creative dreams?

JEN: You have already answered so many of my questions in your books! Something that I have recently experienced was getting the blues after I accomplished one of my dreams... does that ever happen to you? And if so, why do you think this happens?

SARK: Yes! I often get sad after a dream is made real. I think it feels like a loss to some part of me. The main thing, of course, is to feel the loss, and let it move through. Soon it will turn into something else.

SARK: What advice would you like to give others about creative dreams?

JEN: I would want to remind others to pay attention to what it is they love or sparks their interests. I believe there are answers tucked away in the things we are drawn to. Also, to act as if the dream is already in motion. I told people I was a freelance photographer months before I had even been offered my first gig.
